One-week-old twin baby girls are cared for in the center by their mother Aissata Doubmia (right) and a family friend.
According to Dr. Isabelle Traore, who runs the center at the hospital, before the center opened, “we did what we could, but the newborn mortality was very high. We would meet with the mothers after they left (the hospital) but because they (the babies) were losing heat there were a lot of deaths."
"We had heard about Kangaroo Care but had never been trained on how to do it,” she added. (Photo Credit: Joshua Roberts / Save the Children)
